The Ridge Pool & Moy Salmon Fishing
About
The Ridge Pool is the reason Ballina calls itself the Salmon Capital of Ireland: a short, fly-only stretch of the River Moy running through the dead centre of town, below the weir, that is one of the most productive pieces of salmon water in Europe. Anglers stand casting here in sight of the shops and the cathedral, and even if you never lift a rod it is worth standing on the bridge to watch. The wider Moy fishery, the Ridge Pool, the Cathedral Beat and the Moy estuary beats, draws fly-fishers from all over the world. The season runs from 1 February to the end of September, with the summer grilse run from June the busiest and most productive time. Beats are limited and sought-after, so book through the Moy Fishery or the Ballina Angling Centre on Ridge Pool Road well ahead.
