The Station Buffet at Barter Books

The cafe inside Barter Books, in a room of the old Alnwick station that the shop's manager came across in 2008, untouched since the trains stopped, with a fern growing on the wall under a skylight. Barter Books' own page tells that story; the shop describes the food as good plain food, coffee, tea and cookies. There is no booking system, so at busy times you wait for a table. The buffet keeps shorter hours than the bookshop around it, and Paradise, the ice cream parlour in the same building, opens 12pm to 4pm.
