The Alnwick Garden
About
The garden on Denwick Lane, east of the castle, separate from the castle and with its own ticket. The centrepiece is the Grand Cascade, which the garden says has 120 water jets, with the cherry orchard, rose garden, serpent garden, bamboo labyrinth and ornamental garden around it. The Poison Garden is kept behind black iron gates and is opened only for guided tours: you need a day ticket plus a Poison Garden tour ticket, £1 a head, booked in advance, and you may not smell, touch or taste the plants. The garden counts around 100 species of toxic, intoxicating and narcotic plants inside. Children under 16 go free, up to four per paying adult, on a day ticket. Lilidorei, the play village next door, is a separate ticket. Unlike the castle the garden opens through the winter, on fewer days and shorter hours, with evening Winter Lights before Christmas.
