About
A small volunteer museum upstairs in the Butterwalk, the row of timber-framed merchants' houses on Duke Street whose upper floors stand on granite pillars over the pavement. It covers the town's maritime and local history in a set of low, panelled rooms. The museum's own page gives opening as 11am to 3pm every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. It is honest about access: because of the building, there is no wheelchair access beyond the narrow entrance lobby at street level.
