About
A one-hour circular cruise from Dartmouth up the lower river and back, run by the Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company, with a commentary. The route passes Bayard's Cove, the two castles, Britannia Royal Naval College on the hill, Dittisham, Greenway Quay and the estate that was Agatha Christie's. In 2026 the operator said the paddle steamer Kingswear Castle, which it describes as the last remaining coal-fired paddle steamer in the UK and which was built in 1924 by Philip and Son of Dartmouth, would take some sailings from mid-June to September only, and it asks you to phone on the day to check which boat is running. For the longer trip, the same company runs cruises up to Totnes, timed by the tide.
