Dartmouth Steam Railway from Kingswear

← All things to do

About

The heritage steam line runs from Queen's Park station in Paignton along the Torbay coast and up the wooded east bank of the Dart to Kingswear, the village directly opposite Dartmouth. From the town you cross on the passenger ferry, five minutes on the water, and the train ticket includes that crossing. The operator puts the train at about 25 to 30 minutes each way and asks you to allow 30 minutes between boat and train on each side of the river. A return is a good half day out of Dartmouth: the line passes Goodrington and Churston and runs through Greenway tunnel before dropping to the river. Kingswear is a station on this heritage line only; there is no National Rail service there. Well-behaved dogs travel for a small charge and bikes go free in the guard's compartment.
