~3.5km loop ·

← All things to do

About

The Canal Walk is the short riverside path locals reach for when they want air without leaving the city, a tree-lined stretch along the Nore past old mill races and weirs below the castle. It is the most popular short walk in town, flat and easy, and it links up with the Lacken Walk and the wider Nore Linear Park if you want to keep going. Open access, free, and good in any season as long as the river is not in flood.

Highlights

  • Tree-lined path along the River Nore
  • Old mill races and weirs below the castle
  • Links to the Lacken Walk and Nore Linear Park
  • Flat, easy and free with open access

Tips

  • Connect on to the Lacken Walk for a longer loop
  • Can flood after heavy rain; check before heading down
  • Quietest early morning, busiest on fine weekend afternoons
