About
Locally just the Towers: a pair of Gothic gate lodges and a castellated bridge deep in woodland west of town, built as the grand approach to a house that was never built. Arthur Kiely-Ussher built them for his wife; the money ran out before the house followed, which is why the avenue leads to nothing in particular. A forest loop of about 2km runs from the car park, past tall poplars and rhododendron on the old avenue, to the lodges and back in around half an hour. The entrance is off the R666 towards Ballyduff, about 3.5km from Lismore, on the right.
