About

The short walk that gives you the castle from the bridge and the river from the bank. Ferry Lane drops from Main Street to Lismore Bridge, where the castle stands over the water upstream, and the path picks up on the town side and runs east under the trees along the Blackwater, through beech, ash and holly with wild garlic and wood sorrel in spring. It comes back by the lane behind the town and Church Lane to Main Street. Discover Ireland's Lismore walks page gives it as an easy 2km loop of about half an hour on grass path and boardwalk. The separate Riverside Walk, a 5km loop past Round Hill where Carthage is said to have built his first lios, is not always open because it floods.
