About

The old courthouse with the clock tower at the corner of Main Street, open since 1992 as the town's heritage and visitor centre. Its main draw is the Lismore Castle Experience, €10 for adults and €8 for seniors and students, a thirty-minute virtual-reality tour of the castle rooms you cannot otherwise enter, narrated as Robert Boyle, the scientist born in the castle in 1627. It covers Sir Walter Raleigh, the Dukes of Devonshire, Adele Astaire and the visit of her brother Fred, and the hiding of the Book of Lismore and the Lismore Crozier in the castle walls. Showings run on the half hour from 9.30am to 4.30pm. The same building has an escape room, sells local produce and is the town's tourist information point.
