The Mousetrap Inn
Lansdowne, Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire GL54 2AR
About
An independent free house in a nineteenth-century inn on Lansdowne, at the western end of the village, a few minutes' walk from the green and on the way out to the Slaughters. Its own history says it dates from the 1800s, when it was the Lansdown Inn; the story that the name comes from Agatha Christie's play is, it admits, a legend it has not been able to confirm. It pours Hawkstone and Hook Norton, serves classic pub dishes with seasonal specials, and is popular enough that it strongly recommends booking: tables are held for 1 hour 45 minutes, weekend bookings carry a £10 a head deposit, and it is card only. Small to medium dogs are welcome in the bar and restaurant if you tell it in advance, one per person. Breakfast is served daily for residents and visitors.
