About
The parish church on the High Street, an odd and likeable mix of a fourteenth-century chancel, a Georgian tower and a Victorian nave, as the village visitor site describes it. The site says a Saxon church stood here in the early eighth century and that the chancel, the only visible part of the older church, was built in 1328 by Walter de Burhton; the heavy tower with its clock and bells dates from a rebuilding of 1784, and the nave from the 1870s, with a king-post roof. Under the chancel is a twelfth-century crypt. The Model Village has its own copy of the church, slightly out of position.
