The Model Village
About
A one-ninth-scale model of Bourton as it was in the 1930s, built in Cotswold stone in the garden behind the Old New Inn. The inn's own history says the landlord, C. A. Morris, had the idea in 1935, work began in 1936 and it opened in 1937 for the coronation of George VI. It includes the river, both churches with a choir singing in each, the shops and the inn, and a model of the Model Village itself, with a smaller one inside that. It was listed Grade II in 2013, and the inn says it is the only model village in the UK to have that protection. Walk round it first and then find the full-size buildings in the village. There is a separate Exhibition of Miniatures (£1 extra) and a miniature landscape exhibition at 1:32 scale. The paths are too narrow for pushchairs, walking frames or wheelchairs; disabled visitors are let in free through a side gate to view the village from the front. Service dogs only.
