St Ives' old Downalong quarter is genuinely hilly and narrow, with steep granite-cobbled streets such as the upper Stennack and Salubrious Place, and many shop and gallery thresholds have a step. Porthminster Beach is the most accessible of the town's beaches, with beach wheelchairs available in season; Porthmeor and the coast path toward Zennor are less so.
For venue-level access, contact each place directly. The combination of narrow pavements, cobbles and steps in the old town is the main obstacle; the harbour front, the railway station and Porthminster Beach are flatter and more accessible.

Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske), Truro, TR1 3LJ. This is the nearest 24-hour Accident and Emergency department, 23 miles from St Ives by road and about 35 minutes' drive on the A30. St Ives has no hospital of its own. The nearer option, West Cornwall Hospital, St Clare Street, Penzance, TR18 2PF, is only 9 miles away but has an Urgent Treatment Centre, not an A&E. That centre is open 08:00 to 22:00, seven days a week, treats minor injuries and illness only such as minor burns, simple limb fractures, cuts and minor falls, does not receive ambulances and cannot treat serious or life-threatening cases. It is closed between 22:00 and 08:00, and at those hours Treliske, 23 miles away, is the nearest hospital that can see you.

Open 08:00 to 22:00, seven days a week, for patients aged 12 months and over. It treats minor burns and scalds, simple fractures to the arms and legs, cuts, urinary infections and minor falls. It is not an A&E: it does not receive ambulances and cannot treat serious or life-threatening illness or injury. It is closed overnight. Call NHS 111 first, which can book you a slot. For anything life-threatening call 999 or go to the Emergency Department at Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, 23 miles away.

The GP practice serving St Ives town. Visitors who are not registered locally should call NHS 111 first, which can arrange to have you seen.
For urgent but non-life-threatening medical advice call NHS 111, free and 24 hours, which can direct you to the right service and can book you into an Urgent Treatment Centre. Life-threatening emergencies: 999 or 112. The hospital number given is the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust switchboard, staffed 24 hours. NHS prescriptions in England carry a per-item charge, unlike Scotland and Wales where they are free.

Main car parks are Trenwith (TR26 1DD), Barnoon Long Stay (TR26 1JF), Porthmeor (TR26 1JU) and the Station car park (TR26 2BH, 106 spaces). St Ives' streets are narrow and largely unsuited to driving into the old town; the Lelant Saltings park-and-ride, connected to St Ives by the branch railway line, is a strong alternative in peak summer when town car parks fill by mid-morning.
