Seaweed
Carraig Fhada Seaweed
The Melvin family's long-established Killala Bay seaweed: dillisk, carrageen, kombu and the Atlantic Seaweed Bath.
Pier Road, Enniscrone, Co. Sligo
The Kilcullen family have harvested bladderwrack seaweed from the shore of Killala Bay at Enniscrone for four generations, supplying the hot seaweed baths at their Pier Road bath house. Cain Kilcullen is the fourth-generation harvester, gathering the seaweed by hand from the rocks just yards from where it is used. The bath house also sells a selection of seaweed bodycare products. This is the clearest example of a genuine, place-rooted producer in the village, where the raw material, the harvest and the use all happen within sight of one another.
