    Begin where the locals send you. Wander the covered market hall, find the Cork specialities of drisheen and spiced beef, and pick up something from On the Pig's Back or O'Flynn's.

    Head up the stairs inside the market to the Farmgate Café for a window seat over the floor, cooking the market's own produce. Go early to beat the lunch rush.

    Cross the Grand Parade, take in the South Mall's Georgian banking quarter, and cross one of the bridges over the south channel of the Lee toward the cathedral quarter.
